The Handbook of Heroes

What would happen if the world’s dumbest adventurer got hold of a magical self-help book? What if that book was filled with genre savvy advice? The Handbook of Heroes chronicles the adventures of Fighter, Thief, Wizard, and Cleric as they fight monsters, delve dungeons, and plunder the innocent in search of loot.

We’re a joke-a-day style comic with a love for high fantasy and roots in tabletop role-playing games. If you don’t know the Tomb of Horrors from a 10-foot pole, don’t worry! We’ll do our best to explain the geeky inside jokes as we go along.

Claire (the writer)

From the moment she found a copy of the old Dragon Strike board game under the Christmas tree, Claire was hooked on fantasy gaming. As of this writing she’s running two Pathfinder 1e games, a Starfinder game, and playing in Pathfinder 1e, Pathfinder 2e, Broken Compass, and D&D 5e. When she’s not chucking dice she’s working on her PhD in Digital Media and cranking out modules for Adventure-A-Week. You can check out the latter right here.

For most of the comic’s run, Claire wrote under her deadname, “Colin.” Happily, she recently figured her shit out.

Laurel (the illustrator)

Before she was old enough to play Dungeons & Dragons for the first time, Laurel spent her days under the gaming table playing with plastic dinosaurs and listening to her dad and his friends journey across fantastic lands and battle undead monstrosities.  She plays on a weekly basis in addition to drawing her other webcomic, Chorus of the Neverborn, and doodling all her characters on pretty much every surface available.  You can check out her graphic novel, Olive Peril, on Amazon.  She also works as an illustrator for RPG books and supplements, including White Wolf’s Exalted 2nd Edition and Adventure-A-Week modules.
