The Blackest Friday
In the spirit of the season, we thought it might be nice to offer up a few gift ideas for that special gamer in your life. (Note: We’re not affiliated with these products in any way. We just think they’re cool.)
- Dice — No gamer has ever said, “No thanks. I’ve got enough.” Especially not if they’re made out of freakin’ mammoth ivory.
- Dice Bags — The scale mail ones are particularly cool, and can be found all over Etsy.
- Miniatures — There are a lot of options out there, but the custom minis at Hero Forge are pretty dang slick.
- Storage — If you’ve got minis, you’ve got storage problems. These Chessex figure storage boxes are particularly useful for transportation.
- Special FX — A subscription to Syrinscape gives your GM access to a ton of audio ambiance. There are also less conventional mood-setting options out there.
- G̶e̶e̶k̶ ̶C̶h̶i̶c̶ ̶—̶ ̶C̶l̶i̶c̶k̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶o̶w̶n̶ ̶r̶i̶s̶k̶.̶ ̶W̶e̶’̶v̶e̶ ̶c̶o̶v̶e̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶i̶r̶ ̶h̶i̶g̶h̶-̶e̶n̶d̶ ̶g̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶r̶o̶o̶m̶ ̶t̶a̶b̶l̶e̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶y̶e̶a̶r̶s̶ ̶n̶o̶w̶.̶ Site is down and the shop is dead. Sad times.
- Get Out of Jail Free Card — For GMs on a budget, design and print your own. Give one each to your players, then allow them to cash it in to escape certain in-game doom.
- Battlemats — Again with the Chessex, these mats hold up well and have served our gaming table faithfully for years.
- Dice Towers — We made our own from Hirst Arts blocks, but there are some unique options out there.
- Custom Art — If you’ve never commissioned an artist to draw your character, we suggest you give it a try. Check out our Portraiture comic for details.

A friend of mine bought a mammoth die.
Funny fact, they make few of these because the smell of cutting bone is awful…
I would recommend these personally:

If I ever get a new set of dice, this will be my choice.
As a DM, you could also let your party stumble upon a sizable split of loot just cause…
I always liked the idea of the in-game X-mas loot. It goes hand in hand with the classic “adventurers save Santa” type games.
Also, I am now extremely curious. What does cut bone even smell like?
I am told by my sister that it smells a bit like corn chips (fritos). At least when cut with a medical saw.
As a concerned citizen: Why does your sister know that?
Hmmmm. Dunno if I should give my players in-game X-mas stuff. I’ve already decided to give them in-game birthday stuff. It might add up to way too much.
Although I guess I could give them very low powered possibly a bit silly winter season themed stuff. Maybe consumable items. Or perhaps maybe a sock full of consumable items. Yeesssssss. Hmmm. Heh. Magical consumable item coal. Really give them some mixed signals. =P
Well that’s easy then. There is exactly one present. The Yule Spirit will only give it to the “the nicest little adventurer.” The players have one day to out-nice each other. Whoever brings the most holiday cheer to the dungeon full of scrooge-monsters gets The Gun of the Red Rider. It casts blindness.
I’d recommend changing that link to Geek Chic, those guys apparently shut down in 2017 and some fools commandeered the URL as a malware trap.
And if I could make a recommendation for a set of dice: https://diceofrolling.com/
Good call. Years of hyperlinking crap and you figure something gotta go down. Thanks for the heads up!
